Meet Tips
Swim meets are exciting, fast-paced, noisy, and lots of fun.  Bring plenty of water, towels, suncreen, food/money for concessions and merchandise, and portable (i.e. card) games to keep busy between your events.  Bring your camera too!

Ribbons & Important Info.

Each swimmer will get a ribbon for each event they swim. Each family will have a file  that will contain their swimmers' ribbons (usually the day after the meet) and other important  information.

If you aren't too tired after the meet...
The Cool Sharks have a long-standing tradition of heading to Fellini's after the meet is over for food and celebration.

And if you come to the morning practice after the meet...
you will be rewarded with fun and games with the coaches and perhaps a sweet surprise or two!

DUAL MEET PROCEDURES:

   1. Swimmers should arrive promptly at 4 p.m. for dual home meets and by 4:30 p.m. for away meets. Championships will have different arrival times depending on your age group.
   2. Swimmers must check in with their age group’s parent bullpen workers who write their events on the back of their hand and back.   Coaches will post sheets listing the events in our team area.
   3. Swimmers report to their coaches for warm-ups.
   4. Swimmers return to their age group bullpen area.  Parents of younger children  assist  with ensuring their children remain with their appropriate age group.
   5. Swimmers and parents need to keep up with the progress of the meet so that the swimmers are available and ready for their events when called.
   6. Bullpen workers will collect the swimmers for each event and take them to the swim lanes and coaches.
   7. Swimmers return to the team area and stay there until their next event.

MEET LINEUP AND ATTENDANCE:
The list of available swimmers comes from the information you provide on the Swimmer Information sheet. The list is then given to the coaches. They then prepare the lineup for each meet. Everyone expects your swimmer(s) to attend the meets that you’ve indicated. Since lineups are exchanged two days prior to a meet (i.e. Sunday for a Tuesday meet) any change to your child’s swim sheet must be submitted to us THREE DAYS PRIOR to the meet.  That means, by close of pool Friday for a Tuesday meet and by close of pool Monday for our Thursday meet.

For the Championship League meet ONE WEEK notice is necessary. Once the meet starts, changes CANNOT be made to the lineup. If a swimmer does not show up this leaves a hole, an empty lane, for each of that swimmer’s events. This means some other swimmer is denied an opportunity to swim and the team will not score any points for that lane.

MORE IMPORTANTLY – Swimmers are often entered in 2 relays. When someone doesn’t show up that means 6 other swimmers cannot swim. This is very, very disappointing for these swimmers and their parents. Please be considerate and let us know of any changes. The meet’s swimmer lineup is posted on the team bulletin board and changes (initials and date) must be made on the sheet by Friday evening for dual meets. In any case, we’ll also continue the $50.00 deposit per swimmer. You will be required to pay this at the time of registration and it will be refunded to you at the end of the season as long as the swimmer has come to all the meets indicated on the Swimmer Information sheet or any changes made to it were made atleast three days prior to a dual meet and one week prior to the Championship meet. If you do not get your swimmer to a meet that you’ve checked off, the check will be deposited into the team account. That check will have to be replaced before the swimmer can swim again in a meet.

WEATHER:
Regardless of the weather here in Garden Hills, swimmers MUST show up for the meet. Rain by itself does NOT postpone or cancel a meet. The Starter (a qualified official from the League) makes this decision. Please do not assume a meet is cancelled.
